The Miller Excitement Talk with Martin Kivell

December 7 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

On a freezing night in January 1843, shocked residents witnessed a public kidnapping in downtown Stamford. Martha Blackwell Miller, 25, was dragged from her hotel room and forced into a waiting carriage by her estranged husband. The carriage sped through the streets and on to New York. This was part of a scandalous divorce case that split the town into two hostile camps.

Martin Kivell’s article on the “Miller Excitement” is in the current issue of CONNECTICUT EXPLORED magazine. Martin will give a talk on the subject at the Stamford History Center, 1508 High Ridge Road., on Sunday, December 7th, at 1 pm.  Copies of the issue with the article will be sold at a discount. Come and learn about the events that made the Kardashians look tame by comparison.

Martin Kivell was the Education Director of the Stamford Historical Society. His articles have appeared in the CCNY Alumni Magazine and Cracked.com. Learn what it’s like being an uncle (or aunt) on his hilarious blog: Cryuncleblog.wordpress.com
