CT Humanities Awards Four Sponsorships Totaling $7,500

Last month, CT Humanities awarded four sponsorships totaling $7,500. Sponsorships fund conferences, humanities-based events, and more.

Receiving sponsorships at the January deadline are:

Connecticut Storytelling Center (New London, $2,000)
42nd Connecticut Storytelling Festival & Conference
The 42nd Connecticut Storytelling Festival & Conference will be held in venues in downtown New London on April 28 & 29, 2023.  This year’s theme is “Roots” and will be explored through true stories from history, personal narrative, and the folk tradition.  The festival includes three workshops and nine performances over the course of two days.  

LifeBridge Community Services (Bridgeport, $1,500)
Creating from the HeART: Cultivating Our Beloved Community
Creating from the HeART: Cultivating Our Beloved Community will take place on April 27, 2023 at The Knowlton in Bridgeport. The free event will engage the community in informed dialogue about the impact of racism on mental well-being, featuring artist Cey Adams and psychologist Dr. Maysa Akbar, as well as Bridgeport-based artists and poets, and artwork produced by youth participating in LifeBridge’s Urban Scholars Program.  

Windham Arts (Windham, $2,000)
Eastern CT Art & Culture Festival
Windham Arts will host a regional art, music, history and cultural festival on the Jillson Green and Shaboo Stage in Willimantic on Saturday, May 13. This event will be a partnership between at least 11 cultural organizations and the Town of Windham.  The stage will feature musical performers and dance groups, with artists, area museums, authors, and cultural organizations featured at booths throughout the Green. Sponsorship from CT Humanities allows Windham Arts to provide admission free of cost. 

Windham Region Chamber of Commerce Foundation (Windham, $2,000)
Historic Military Encampment
To celebrate Armed Forces Day weekend (May 19-21), Windham Region Chamber of Commerce will host an encampment with living history displays and re-enactors covering every major war from the Revolutionary War to the War in Afghanistan.  The encampment will include discussions and presentations about the following: general information about the war, what soldiers ate, how they slept, weapons used, medical treatment, inventions created, social issues, role of underrepresented groups, significant outcomes, and influential people.
