MIDDLETOWN, CONN (June 23, 2021) – Connecticut Humanities (CTH) today announced they will receive more than $30 million through the state’s budget process. The allocation will be used to stabilize state cultural organizations over the course of the biennium.

Centering equity, the funding will assist the arts and culture sector as it recovers from the pandemic, provides support for upgrading technology and expanding digital programming and be used to better connect K-12 students to the arts and humanities. CTH will receive up to $20 million in FY 2022 and up to $10.7 million through the FY 2023 budget.

“I am so grateful to the legislature, to Governor Lamont and to the many people and organizations that have advocated over the past year for increased support of our state’s cultural sector,” said Dr. Jason Mancini, executive director at CT Humanities. “We will work closely with our partners at the CT Office of the Arts to ensure that every community in Connecticut will benefit from these resources. After a difficult year for everyone who constitutes the cultural fabric of our state, we are heartened that this unprecedented level of funding will make a dramatic and lasting difference.”

Funding will be awarded through a collaboration between CT Humanities and the CT Office of the Arts. Awards will provide stability within the cultural sector with an eye toward the future sustainability of organizations.

“Connecticut is home to droves of artists and arts organizations whose creative output fuels our State’s arts and culture offerings,” said Elizabeth Shapiro, Director at the Connecticut Office of the Arts. “This funding will allow us to meaningfully support those organizations who employ the artistic talent to create for our engagement and enjoyment. We are very excited about this opportunity.”

CTH is Connecticut’s only statewide non-profit organization focused broadly on supporting access to and providing funding for public humanities through grant funding and capacity building. The grants have supported a variety of projects and organizations for more than four decades.
