Connecticut Humanities (CTH) supports a series of working groups to strengthen collaboration, increase access to shared knowledge, and advance shared initiatives across all aspects of the humanities. While anchored within the Digital Humanities Department, these groups encompass a broad range of topics and projects, from oral history and cultural data to open culture and publishing.
These collaborative hubs welcome individuals and organizations engaged in humanities work across Connecticut to discuss projects, share tools and practices, and build sustainable networks. Participation is open to anyone involved in or interested in the humanities.
The Open Culture Working Group connects individuals and organizations committed to advancing open culture initiatives across Connecticut’s humanities sector. This collaborative network welcomes anyone interested in openly licensed collections, open access publishing, open educational resources (OER), and related open movements. Members share expertise, develop best practices, and build connections to strengthen the open culture ecosystem.
In partnership with the University of Connecticut’s Engaged, Public, Oral, and Community History (EPOCH) initiative, the Oral History Collaborative brings together practitioners and organizations from across Connecticut. This group serves as a hub for people managing or interested in oral history projects to share knowledge, learn from peers, and contribute expertise to strengthen oral history work statewide.
The Cultural Data Working Group facilitates statewide conversations around all aspects of data in humanities work. From access to preservation, project planning to metadata, this forum enables individuals and organizations to learn and share about data projects of all types and scales. Members collaborate to address common challenges and explore innovative approaches to cultural data management.
The Digital Humanities Projects Working Group creates an inclusive environment for sharing knowledge about ongoing digital initiatives and exploring collaborative opportunities. This statewide forum welcomes participants from diverse institutions—from small museums to large universities—fostering connections between professionals working on digital cultural projects regardless of scale or expertise level.
The Publishing Working Group connects individuals and organizations who create and distribute historical, cultural, and educational content throughout Connecticut. This collaborative network welcomes traditional publishers, digital content creators, museum staff, historical societies, independent scholars, educators, and anyone involved in crafting and sharing Connecticut’s stories. Members gather to exchange ideas, discuss current projects, and learn from peers across the cultural publishing landscape.
