Last week, Sheldyn Oliver joined the Connecticut Humanities staff as our part-time Administrative Assistant. Sheldyn received an Associate’s degree in General Studies from Middlesex Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in African American Studies from Wesleyan University. Having lived in Middletown for 31 years, she is honored to have received degrees from institutions located in her hometown. Sheldyn’s studies, exploration, and time spent working with the professors in Wesleyan’s African American Studies Department helped to ignite her enthusiasm about history and sparked, even further, her curiosities and intrigue about Black History.
Before making her way to CT Humanities, Sheldyn spent time working at Kidcity Children’s Museum in Middletown and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Hartford. The values at each organization are one’s she holds dear: building and connecting with the community, sharing history through educational experiences, and doing one’s part to help lift the voices and stories of communities who have been marginalized and disenfranchised.
As someone passionate about learning and sharing knowledge, Sheldyn can wholeheartedly say that CTH’s mission is one in which she believes and is proud to stand behind. She looks forward to bringing her passion for life and learning to the CT Humanities team. We are thrilled to have her!
