We will acquire a local history website that is currently being developed by historian and documentarian Ken Simon, a town resident. Before going live, we will rebrand the site as the storytelling companion to our institutional site, finalize its existing content, and add new content. The website will strengthen our post-pandemic response by inspiring people to visit the museum while creating engaging online content that expands our reach and impact, and positions us well for a digital future.
The East Haddam Historical Society requests Capacity Grant support for Phase 1 of our first Interpretive Plan, which will consist of audience research, architectural review of the current floor plan and use of space dedicated to exhibitions, and an exploration of local stories that should be highlighted in our permanent exhibitions that will feature items from our collections. We will be working with several consultants as part of this project.
Funding for strategic and visionary planning.
Funding will allow the East Haddam Historical Museum to partner with the East Haddam Land Trust to create an exhibit and series of short mini documentaries produced by local resident, Ken Simon. In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Land Trust, these films will highlight their history and focus on two of preserves that hold remains of the town’s historic mills. Narration will include the mills history and impact on the town’s growth. The grand opening of the exhibit takes place in March 2020.
