Peter Parley Birthday Celebration at the Schoolhouse

Lemonade and cookies will be served to mark the birthday of Samuel G. Goodrich, a graduate of the West Lane District school and the author, as Peter Parley, of scores of children’s books. Born in 1793, Goodrich acquired most of his education at the district school and went on to be a publisher and editor; his children’s books sold in the millions. The West Lane District school, now a small museum of early education in Ridgefield, is operated by the Ridgefield Historical Society, which hosts a monthly open house during the warmer months.
