Montessori Magnet Students Shine at CT History Day. “Mother Ella” Chosen as Outstanding Entry in Connecticut History.

Four Montessori Magnet School (Hartford) students earned the 2020 Outstanding Entry in Connecticut History Prize at the Connecticut History Day contest in May. Grace Perez, Sicily Rose, Nasir Mitchell, and Caden Weatherspoon produced a short documentary on the life of Ella Grasso entitled, “Mother Ella.”

Rebecca Taber-Conover, Head of Public Programs and Connecticut History Day/Connecticut Democracy Center, noted the students worked very hard under the direction of their teacher, Mr. Joseph DePasqua. A proud “Mr. D.” also remarked on the students’ work ethic. “They took a trip to Windsor Locks to film parts of the video,” he explained. “I was so impressed when they were cleaning around Ella Grasso’s gravesite – they felt a connection to her.”
