As the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence approaches, the Kellogg Environmental Center & Osborne Homestead Museum will begin its commemoration with a series of lectures by historian and author Richard Worth. His second lecture will present the history of the French and Indian War through the stories of several colonial governors and military leaders. Come to the second lecture and learn about the leaders of the French and Indian War on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kellogg Environmental Center.

Richard Worth is the main researcher and writer of the Osborne Homestead Museum newsletter, Museum Musings, and author of several children’s books. These include “Voices of Colonial America: New France,” and “Voices of Colonial America: Louisiana.” In addition, he has written “Colonial Delaware,” “The Slave Trade in America,” “Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr,” and “Slave Life on the Plantations.” His second lecture will present the history of the French and Indian War through the stories of several colonial governors and brilliant military leaders like Generals John Forbes, Marquis de Montcalm, James Wolfe, Louis de Bougainville, and Jeffrey Amherst. His remaining lectures will be the Forgotten Leaders of American Revolution on September 14th, and Colonial Portraits on September 28th. The Osborne Homestead Museum, a facility of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s State Parks & Public Outreach Division, is open for free docent-led and self-guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  It is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue off Rte. 34 in Derby, CT. The Kellogg Environmental Center, a facility of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s State Parks & Public Outreach Division, is open 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.
