Although conversations on race and racism have always been important for the equal treatment of our friends, neighbors and colleagues, the level of interest in educational programs have skyrocketed. NCCJ has seen a tremendous response from communities across CT and the demand has shifted for support beyond just our programs. NCCJ DEI Consulting services are in high demand and we are seeking support to grow our capacity while building a central model that can assist with transformational change.

Growing recognition of the need for more inclusive and nuanced histories led the Town of Windsor to request that the State move the controversial John Mason statue to Windsor Historical Society (WHS). At WHS, where the statue will be exhibited in its fully-accessible outdoor courtyard, the public will experience a more balanced and inclusive interpretation of Major John Mason’s legacy, the events of the Pequot war, its effect on Connecticut’s Native peoples and the statue’s evolving symbolism.
