DESCRIPTION:Engaging exhibits for all at the Weston History & Culture Center this Spring & Summer \nIn the Visitors Center: \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot: Honors a local woman who supported her family’s active role during the American Revolution\, highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of women during the period. \nLocal Patriots & Loyalists of the American Revolution: Learn about those who were for and against the Revolutionary War in this exhibit that features people from the Weston/Fairfield\, Wilton/Norwalk and Ridgefield. \nIn the historic Coley Barn: \nWeston at Work: Come explore the history of agriculture\, manufacturing\, and textile production in Weston and Connecticut in the new\, interactive exhibit\, “Weston at Work”. Children can card wool\, weave on a loom\, use a rope and pulley to raise a hay bale and more! \nIn the Historic Coley House: \nGuided Tour – Life in the 1940s:Take a guided tour of the award-winning Coley House\, the only historic house in CT brought back to reflect life during the 1940s. Explore how the Coley family lived\, worked and played while on the home front during World War II. \nStroll through the Daniel E. Offutt\, III Sculpture Garden on our glorious 3.7 acre property.

SUMMARY:Gallery Talk with Rick Shaefer
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Looking for History\, join exhibiting artist Rick Shaefer for a guided tour of Colossi on Thursday\, August 20\, at 6pm. \nDuring this one-hour walkthrough\, Shaefer will lead Museum visitors through the exhibition\, sharing insights into the inspiration\, historical references\, and creative methods that inform the works on view. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion about the artist’s concepts\, materials\, and techniques. \nShaefer’s exhibition at MoCACT includes selections from three ongoing bodies of work: the Colossi\, Refugee Trilogy\, and Liberty Dismantled series. These works collectively examine the transhistorical themes of migration\, displacement\, national identity\, and the tension between ideals of freedom and the realities of division. \nAlso on view are two short videos that offer a close read of two major drawings from the Colossi series\, The New Colossus and Siege. The videos\, created specifically for this exhibition\, offer visitors a deeper understanding of the historical precedents\, symbolism\, and formal techniques that shape the artist’s practice. Together\, these works invite reflection on the structures — both physical and metaphorical — that impact our world and our relationships with one another.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception of “Making his Mark in Connecticut: The Creative Process of F. Luis Mora”
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the opening reception of “Making his Mark in Connecticut: The Creative Process of F. Luis Mora.” To commemorate the U.S. Semiquincentennial\, the HMA presents this exhibition\, which explores the themes of the America 250 | CT Commission through the lens of an Uruguayan-born artist who settled in Gaylordsville\, CT. Featuring never-before-seen preparatory drawings alongside finished paintings\, this exhibition tells the origin story of the first Hispanic member of the National Academy of Design and his legacy in his adopted state. \nThis exhibition is curated by Dr. Cynthia Roznoy with key loans from the collection of Benjamin Ortiz and Victor P. Torchia\, Jr. and George Wall. The exhibition also includes loans from major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, the Yale University Art Gallery\, the Mattatuck Museum\, the Florence Griswold Museum\, the Georgia Museum of Art\, and the Rockwell Museum. \nFree and open to the public; light refreshments served. \nThis project is supported by funding through CT Humanities\, the Wyeth Foundation for American Art\, and America 250 | CT. SUMMARY:The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum to hold Red Carpet Gala Celebrating its Cinematic History
DESCRIPTION:Norwalk\, Conn. July 7\, 2026– The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will host a “Red Carpet Gala” on Oct. 3\, 2026\, at 6 p.m. The event will take place in the Mansion’s historic rooms at 295 West Avenue\, Norwalk\, CT. LMMM Trustee Ernest DesRochers and Board of Trustees Chairman Douglas Hempstead will co-chair the evening. \nThe gala will feature Hollywood glamour\, an exciting cinematic experience courtesy of the Avon Theatre\, an exclusive preview of the exhibition\, “The Evolving Icon\,” in collaboration with The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists\, a formal dinner\, silent and live auctions\, and more. Guests are encouraged to dress in red carpet or black-tie optional attire. \nThe gala will celebrate the Mansion’s history as a silver-screen backdrop.
