SUMMARY:The Monthly Slice - A Slice of Zuppardi’s: Family\, History & Apizza
DESCRIPTION:The Zuppardi sisters\, Cheryl and Lori\, are the heart and soul of one of Connecticut’s most treasured pizza institutions\, Zuppardi’s of West Haven. The celebrated siblings will join Colin Caplan—author and co-curator of the “Pronounced Ah-Beetz” exhibition at the New Haven Museum (NHM)—for a behind-the-scenes conversation on family history\, business\, their accomplishments\, during “A Slice of Zuppardi’s: Family\, History & Apizza\,” on Thursday\, November 5\, 2026\, at 6 p.m. Free with regular museum admission. Register here. The program is the latest “Monthly Slice” series at NHM. \nCheryl and Lori’s grandfather\, Domenico Zuppardi\, came to the United States from Maori\, Italy\, and opened a bread bakery in West Haven in 1934. Passing the business on to his son\, who shifted the focus from bread to pizza\, a legendary Connecticut tradition was born. The sisters have carried it on to a new generation. \nToday\, the sisters remain at the center of this extraordinary family business. SUMMARY:Ridgefield’s Great Estates Bus Tour
DESCRIPTION:More than 20 grand estates that covered much of Ridgefield a century ago will be the focus of a bus tour presented by the Ridgefield Historical Society\, from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday\, Nov. 7\, 2026. \nTown Historian Jack Sanders\, author of the book\, Ridgefield’s Great Estates\, will bring the group to and sometimes through these grand properties during a 25-mile excursion of the town\, describing the grounds and mansions – some of which are still standing and have been repurposed. Beginning and ending at Jesse Lee Church at 207 Main Street in Ridgefield\, the tour is entirely by mini school bus and will not include walking around or inside buildings. Seating is limited to 16 people and is expected to sell out quickly. \nFor a complete experience\, tour-goers should bring their copies of Ridgefield’s Great Estates\, for illustrations to which Mr. Sanders will be referring throughout the trip. Copies may be ordered as an add-on at checkout and will be distributed at the bus tour. This book can also be purchased from our friends at Books on the Common. A couple of copies will be available on loan for the tour. \nA Fairfield County native and graduate of the College of the Holy Cross\, Jack Sanders retired in 2014 after 45 years as an editor of The Ridgefield Press. He’s written 20 books on Ridgefield history\, and also created and administers the “Old Ridgefield” group on Facebook\, which has more than 13\,000 followers. He and his wife\, Sally\, a retired newspaper editor who is vice president of the Ridgefield Historical Society\, live in a 250-year old farmhouse in Ridgefield.

SUMMARY:Ridgefield History Club Explores Stonehenge Inn’s Golden Age
DESCRIPTION:The glamour and excitement of Ridgefield’s famed Stonehenge Inn during the 1950s will be the focus of the Ridgefield History Club on Tuesday\, Nov. 17\, at 10 a.m. at the Ridgefield Historical Society’s Scott House\, 4 Sunset Lane. Historical Society board member Keith Russell will lead an illustrated group discussion\, “Clarence Korker’s The Golden Age of Stonehenge – The 1950s\,” featuring recently digitized photographs of the inn’s celebrated guests\, staff and social life\, including entertainers Judy Garland and Jackie Cooper. \nClarence “Korky” Korker documented Ridgefield from the mid- to late 20th century through thousands of photographs and negatives. After retiring\, he donated his extensive collection to the Ridgefield Historical Society. Russell has been gradually digitizing the images and adding them to the Society’s online archive. The collection ranges from portraits\, weddings and community gatherings to streetscapes\, commercial buildings and celebrities visiting Stonehenge Inn. \nThe Ridgefield History Club is an informal community storytelling program of the Ridgefield Historical Society. The group meets for an hour on the third Tuesday of every month to explore a specific topic in Ridgefield’s history through shared conversation. \nEach session is recorded and cataloged in the Historical Society’s archive to preserve these stories for future generations. The program is also streamed live on Facebook and uploaded to the Society’s YouTube channel. Everyone is invited—just bring your curiosity and love of history. Some attend every month\, while others join when a topic holds special meaning for them. Longtime Ridgefield residents and newcomers alike are welcome. This free program is a wonderful way to connect with others and discover new insights into the town’s heritage.
