SUMMARY:250th Parade Celebration and Ice Cream Social
DESCRIPTION:The East Windsor Historical Society is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a parade and ice cream social! The community is gathering together to acknowledge East Windsor’s contribution to the revolution. A parade will start at 11 AM and make its way into the museum grounds located at 113-115 Scantic Road. Then we’ll have our annual ice cream social with FREE ice cream! Other vendors will be on site and all of the museums will be open. Music\, activities\, and more!

DESCRIPTION:Engaging exhibits for all at the Weston History & Culture Center this Spring & Summer \nIn the Visitors Center: \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot: Honors a local woman who supported her family’s active role during the American Revolution\, highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of women during the period. \nLocal Patriots & Loyalists of the American Revolution: Learn about those who were for and against the Revolutionary War in this exhibit that features people from the Weston/Fairfield\, Wilton/Norwalk and Ridgefield. \nIn the historic Coley Barn: \nWeston at Work: Come explore the history of agriculture\, manufacturing\, and textile production in Weston and Connecticut in the new\, interactive exhibit\, “Weston at Work”. Children can card wool\, weave on a loom\, use a rope and pulley to raise a hay bale and more! \nIn the Historic Coley House: \nGuided Tour – Life in the 1940s:Take a guided tour of the award-winning Coley House\, the only historic house in CT brought back to reflect life during the 1940s. Explore how the Coley family lived\, worked and played while on the home front during World War II. \nStroll through the Daniel E. Offutt\, III Sculpture Garden on our glorious 3.7 acre property.

SUMMARY:Songs of Sedition and Rebellion at the Pardee-Morris House
DESCRIPTION:From the time of the Stamp Act in 1765 through the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781\, Connecticut’s seditious colonists used songs and hymns to foment rebellion\, commemorate victory\, and give thanks for preservation. Historical musician Richard Franklin Donohue will bring his spinet harpsichord to the Pardee-Morris House for a positively revolutionary performance\, “What A Glorious Crash They Made\,” on Sunday\, June 28\, 2026\, at 2 p.m. Register for the special NH250 event here. For weather updates check our Facebook/Instagram pages or visit newhavenmuseum.org. \n“What A Glorious Crash They Made” features a collection of songs and hymns published in Connecticut during the American Revolution. Donohue will sing\, sharing his original research and exploring the fiery repertoire that in the words of John Adams\, “cultivated the sensations of freedom.” \nDonohue searched historical newspaper databases to find original publications of songs that existed in Connecticut between 1768 and 1783. With newly composed lyrics for popular tunes\, the songs demonstrate the anger\, determination\, and gratitude of Connecticut’s patriot population. The program will span the Revolutionary War years with selections like John Dickinson’s “Liberty Song\,” William Billings’ “Chester\,” Andrew Law’s “Middletown\,” and popular British tunes with newer texts reflecting the cause of freedom. \nDonohue develops programs that explore the space around what he calls “the swinging door that exists between history and music.” He believes that music from any period needs to be presented with careful consideration of historical context\, instrumentation\, performance practice\, and linguistic detail. With pronunciation based on evidence left by Benjamin Franklin and Noah Webster\, and accompaniment on a spinet harpsichord\, Richard strives to create as authentic a sound as possible. \nNew Haven Museum thanks community partner WSHU 91.1 FM for supporting the 2026 summer season.
