The mini exhibit will make its debut Thursday August 20th at the Center’s headquarters and exhibit space at 1508 High Ridge Road in Stamford. Admission is free. \n“The 1951 Little League World Championship is legendary in our city\,” notes Michael Macari\, Executive Director of the Stamford History Center. “If you grew up here\, it is embedded in our consciousness as a community. It remains a great source of pride for Stamford to this day. “ \nThe players and coaches from the 1951 team went on to greater roles in the athletic life of Stamford\, influencing many thousands over the ensuing decades. Names like Mickey Lione\, Andy Wasil\, Dom Lacerenza\, Frank Robotti and others engraved their names forever in the town and city folklore. \nThe exhibit includes artifacts such as actual uniforms\, bats and gloves used by the 1951 team. Additionally\, the exhibit contains the team World Championship and Regional Championship trophies\, as well as an individual trophy awarded to Mickey Lione Jr..  Also\,  many photos\, newspaper articles and artifacts from the archives of the Stamford History Center\, formerly the  Stamford Historical Society\, as well as artifacts donated to the Center by the Lione Family Foundation. \nNotable photos include the team processing onto the field in Williamsport\, PA\, game photos\, the parade down Atlantic Street following the win and intimate photos with Major League Baseball legends Cy Young as well as the players giving tips to New York Giants pitcher Sal Maglie. \nThe exhibit also contains a first-hand account from one of the team’s star players\, Ed Mazurek. Speaking some years later\, Mazurek mentioned to future players: “Always win with dignity and respect. Lose with respect; win with dignity.” \nMazurek was also a member of the 1954 Babe Ruth World Championship team which featured many of the same players as the Little League World Championship team. He went on to become a teacher in Rockland\, Maine\, where he and his wife raised their family. \nThe exhibit is being curated by Elena Teeter\, Associate  Director for Research and Curation at the Stamford History Center. \n2026 Stamford Little League all-stars will open the exhibit on August 20th. This live production offers an immersive experience that invites the audience into the towns of Highbury and Hartfield\, the home of Emma Woodhouse and her father\, where they will witness key scenes throughout the museum and gardens. \nPerformances will be held on the first floor of the museum which is not accessible and the gardens which are accessible. Most of the scenes will be held outdoors. Guests will be moving from scene to scene with the cast. It is highly recommended that guests bring hand fans and sun protection for the outdoor scenes and the non-air-conditioned museum. This event is suitable for ages twelve and up\, and it is recommended that children attend the first performance at 11:30 a.m. \nPerformances are scheduled for Friday\, Sept. 25 at 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m; Saturday\, Sept. 26 and Sunday\, Sept. 27 at 11:30 a.m.\, 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Registration is required.
