SUMMARY:Exploring the Derek Piotr Fieldwork Archive: Preserving Folklife Through Sound
DESCRIPTION:Join Fairfield Public Library for a fascinating lecture with folklorist and researcher Derek Piotr\, founder of The Derek Piotr Fieldwork Archive. \nThe Derek Piotr Fieldwork Archive was established by Derek Piotr in August 2022. The Archive contains over 1\,500 audio recordings made from March 2020 onward\, and preserves diverse representations of folklife; ballads\, hymns\, tales\, poems\, children’s songs\, and interviews among them. The focus of this collection is on the “non-singer”: someone with no background in musical performance who can nevertheless relate a song or folkloric memory. In this lecture\, Derek will walk you through the process of journeying everywhere from Iceland to Appalachia to record these songs from non-musicians\, as well as the organization and development of the Archive as a web-based repository. \nPlease register.

PRESENTS  \nWOMEN IN PHOTOGRAPHY: THEN + NOW on WEDNESDAY\, JUNE 3rd \nSpecial Event Combines Photography Exhibit\, Performance and Conversation \n(Norwich\, CT – March 11\, 2026). Artreach\, Inc. will present Women in Photography: Then + Now on Wednesday\, June 3\, 2026 at 7:00 pm in the Oasis Room at the Garde Arts Center. The special event will feature a performance of Breaking Glass\, a solo play written and performed by Emma Palzere-Rae. The play will be followed by a fireside chat with Mona Penn-Jousset and Coco Olakunle of AtelierMOCA\, moderated by Artreach’s executive director\, Rebecca Atkins. The Garde Arts Center is located at 325 State Street\, New London\, CT. Doors open at 6:00 pm for viewing of the photography exhibit Unseen Stories. SUMMARY:THE FATHER by Florian Zeller – on stage!
DESCRIPTION:THE FATHER is a psychologically immersive play that uniquely puts the audience in the position of the main character\, allowing us to experience his confusion as if it were our own. We never know what’s true or real.  \nTold with humor and empathy\, and by shrewd manipulation\, audiences are treated to a heart-wrenching glimpse of the despair of memory loss.  NOT TO BE MISSED!  \nTHE FATHER (Le Père) is the winner of the 2014 Molière Award for Best Play. The Molières are considered France’s highest theatrical honour.   THE FATHER premiered on Broadway in 2016 with Frank Langella winning the TONY AWARD for BEST ACTOR\, and was transferred to screen with Anthony Hopkins winning the BEST ACTOR OSCAR for his performance.  \nThe Father is a darkly humorous\, deeply poignant and unsentimental play\, presenting a sobering and emotionally intense look at the world through the eyes of a man experiencing dementia\, with a dramatic illustration of the physical losses which occur along with the mental ones.

SUMMARY:2026 Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival\, titled “Voices of Freedom: Resistance\, Justice\, and Revolution\,” will be held April 9-12 at locations both on and off Trinity College’s campus at 300 Summit Street\, Hartford. Highlights will include a lecture\, a student producer showcase\, dance battles\, and much more. A new permanent mural by international graffiti artists at Hartford’s Parkville Market aims to leave a lasting mark on the city. \nThe 2026 festival will present two internationally acclaimed co-headliners: Da Odd Couple\, the DJ duo of Rob Swift and Mista Sinista\, and B-Boy Tim Andria\, a breaking champion from France. All events are free and open to the public. \nThe milestone anniversary is being marked by Living Declarations: Photo Exhibit of Global Hip Hop in the City of Hartford 2006-2025\, which invites viewers to reflect on the festival’s past while imagining its future. It will be displayed April 5-19\, both on campus in The Cave (Mather Hall\, lower level) and at Parkville Market (1400 Park Street\, second floor)\, and also during the festival on Saturday\, April 11\, at 1390@Parkville (1390 Park Street).
