Way Sisters Exhibition Opening
October 29 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams Street
New London, CT 06320 United States
Help us celebrate the opening of ”The Way Sisters: Miniaturists of the Early Republic” on Friday, October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. This exhibition presents the work of Mary Way (1769–1833) and Elizabeth Way Champlain (1771–1825), pioneering sisters from New London, Connecticut, who expanded gender roles for women and pushed the boundaries of portrait miniatures as an artform. They were among the earliest independent women artists working in the United States, producing watercolor miniatures and unique “dressed” paper portraits with fabric clothing between 1790 and 1825. Join us for wine and hors d’oeuvres at the Museum on Friday or visit anytime until January 23, 2022, when the exhibition closes. To attend the opening, please RSVP to 860.443.2545 ext. 2129 or email us. This event is free to members, $10 to non-members.
