Poetry Read-In

April 28 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, 227 South Main St
West Hartford, CT 06107 United States

Join Poet Laureate Emeritus Maria Sassi for an afternoon of poetry at Noah’s house!

On Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 1-4 p.m., poets Julie Choffel and Tom Nicotera will share their work.

Julie Choffel is the author of The Hello Delay, winner of the Poets Out Loud Prize, and West Hartford’s current Poet Laureate. Her poems have appeared in The Seattle Review, Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, Fairy Tale Review, and Art New England. She teaches creative writing at the University of Connecticut.

Tom Nicotera is currently coordinator of Bloomfield Library’s Wintonbury Poetry Series and a member of a performance poetry trio called “No Just Any Tom, Vic and Terri.” He annually produces “Celebrate Bloomfield” Poetry Event featuring 17 Bloomfield poets, and is a mentor for the American School for the Deaf poetry collaboration with Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. His poetry book, What Better Place To Be Than Here?, was published by Foothills Publishing in 2015.

Following Choffel and Nicotera’s reading, there will be an open mic session.

Poetry Read-In at Noah Webster’s house is sponsored twice annually by Poet Laureate Emeritus Maria Sassi. Sassi is a prize-winning poet and playwright. Her most recent collection of poems is entitled Rare Grasses. For many years, Maria taught creative writing with an emphasis on poetry at Hartford College for Women, and she has hosted poetry events at several venues including the Noah Webster House, Hartford’s Old State House, and the Charter Oak Cultural Center. Her work has been much anthologized and published by many literary journals. She has read at venues throughout the Northeast and at the Poets Library in Edinburgh, Scotland; and she has lectured on the work of many national Poet Laureates.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. And Noah wouldn’t say no to a goodwill donation.
