Nick Bellantoni’s Greatest Hits in Connecticut Archaeology

October 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free
Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Rd
Avon, CT 06001 United States

Join us for a virtual presentation by Nick Bellantoni, PhD, Emeritus CT State Archaeologist.

Nick Bellantoni, Emeritus CT State Archaeologist, looks back at his 27-year-career preserving and excavating archaeological sites in our state. He will present some of the fascinating projects he has worked on, including criminal forensic investigations, early Native American sites, colonial farmsteads, historic cemeteries and industrial mills, “vampires,” the plane crash of Lt. Eugene Bradley (after whom Bradley Airport is named), and the repatriations of Henry Opukaha’ia and Albert Afraid of Hawk, among others. Significant archaeological sites from Avon, including the old Cider Mill, Derrin House and the Brian Jones Site, will be discussed, as well as how the Avon Land Trust can help reserve archaeological sites within the community.

Dr. Nicholas F. Bellantoni serves as the emeritus state archaeologist with the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History at the University of Connecticut. He received his doctorate in anthropology from UConn in 1987 and was shortly thereafter appointed state archaeologist. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Research Professor in the Department of Anthropology at UConn, and is Interim-President of the Archaeological Society of Connecticut and a former president of the National Association of State Archeologists.

Co-sponsored by the Avon Library and Avon Land Trust.
