Free
Bridgeport Public Library History Center, 925 Broad Street

Little Liberia is one of the earliest free communities of color in America and the first in Connecticut settled by a group of free Black and Indian families in the early 19th century.

Keith Stokes is a direct descendant of Little Liberia founding families and owns many family heirlooms that reflect how families of color lived, worked, and worshiped within Little Liberia and the great Bridgeport area.
