Kids’ Improv Comedy Workshop
July 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Southington Public Library, 255 Main Street
Southington, CT, 06489
Attention class clowns ages 7-10! Join Hartford-based Sea Tea Improv Comedy Theater and the Southington Public Library for a one-hour improv comedy workshop designed especially for kids. Participants will be introduced to the basics of improv or, unscripted, theatrical performances.
Sea Tea Improv’s workshops are 100% participatory experiences. Students will get on their feet and encouraged to be bold and take risks. Through exercises, group discussion, and Q&A, we’ll explore how:
• Practicing improv can strengthen listening and communication skills
• Taking risks and making mistakes sometimes leads us to better, unexpected places
• Contemporary life, such as toilet paper shortages, school anxieties, and friendship issues, can be processed and understood through humor
• Collaboration and being open to the ideas of others makes us more creative, kinder individuals
Space is limited and registration is required. To sign up, please stop by the Children’s Desk at the library beginning Thursday, July 7th. Registration MUST be in person because this is a LIVE, IN-PERSON program that requires a refundable ticket deposit. Refundable tickets are 3 dollars for one child/ 5 for two or more children in the same family. When you check in on the day of the program, bring the ticket to the Children’s desk, we find the registered child(ren) on the list, and you will get the $3/$5 deposit back. If you do not come to the program, and/or don’t call to cancel your spot up to 24 hours beforehand, you will lose your deposit.
Sea Tea Improv performers and instructors have trained at America’s top comedy institutions, including the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and The Second City, and performed hundreds of shows and classes for thousands of audience members and students since 2009.
Thanks to the generosity of Connecticut Humanities, the Southington Library is able to provide thought-provoking, educational programming in a joyful medium all summer long.
