As the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence approaches, the Kellogg Environmental Center & Osborne Homestead Museum will begin its commemoration with a series of lectures by historian and author Richard Worth. His third lecture is about the forgotten leaders of the American Revolution. Come to this third installment of Richard Worth’s lecture on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kellogg Environmental Center.

Richard Worth is the main researcher and writer of the Osborne Homestead Museum newsletter, “Museum Musings”, and author of several children’s books. These include “Voices of Colonial America: New France,” and “Voices of Colonial America: Louisiana.” In addition, he has written “Colonial Delaware,” “The Slave Trade in America,” “Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr,” and “Slave Life on the Plantations.” His third lecture will be about the forgotten leaders of the American Revolution—Daniel Morgan, John Glover, Andrew Pickens, Lord Cornwallis, John Sullivan, and others. Each lecture weaves in some of the overarching themes of Colonial America: the fur trade, upward mobility, the clash of empires, city vs. frontier, the lure of exploration, and explicit racism. His last lecture will be Colonial Portraits scheduled for September 28th. Stay tuned to get more information on the last lecture.

The Osborne Homestead Museum, a facility of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s State Parks & Public Outreach Division, is open for free docent-led and self-guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  It is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue off Rte. 34 in Derby, CT.
