1775 Worship Service Re-enactment
May 5 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 S Main St
West Hartford, 06107
What was it like to attend a 1775 Congregational church service? Noah’s New Americans is sponsoring a historical re-enactment of such a service and invite you to attend. Noah’s New Americans is the Noah Webster House and West Hartford Historical Society’s junior history club. The group, comprised of young adults ages 10-15 years old, re-enact moments/days from Noah’s daily life. Noah and his family would have attended the 1742 Meetinghouse – Fourth Church of Hartford, at the time served by Reverend Nathan Perkins. Rev. Perkins served as the third minister to the West Hartford community as well as a tutor to young Noah Webster. Rev. Perkins gave a sermon to the troops on Goodman Green on June 2, 1775. Noah’s New Americans are re-enacting this service. Reverend Joe Tobin will portray Rev. Perkin’s and deliver the historical sermon to the troops/congregation, during this 1775 authentic worship service. The service is taking place at the First Church of Christ Congregational located at 12 S Main St, West Hartford, CT 06107. All are welcome to attend this free event and period costumes are encouraged.
